José Carlos Montoyo Díaz (born October 17, 1965 in Florida, Puerto Rico) is a former Major League Baseball player. Montoyo played in four games for the Montreal Expos in the 1993 season.

Playing career

Montoyo played college baseball at Louisiana Tech University. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 6th round of the 1987 amateur draft. During his brief major league career, Montoyo had two hits in five at bats, with three RBIs.

Montoyo retired at the end of the 1996 season through ten seasons in the minors Montoyo career batting average is .266 with 38 homeruns and 400 RBIs.

Coaching career

Charlie has been a coach for the Tampa Bay Rays organization since 1997 with the Princeton Devil Ray (now the Princeton Rays). He led them to their best record since they have been in the Rays organization. The next year he coached the Hudson Valley Renegades where he won his first division title. The next 2 years he managed the Charleston RiverDogs leading them to their first winning season. The next year he managed the Bakersfield Blaze. For the next four years he served as the manager of the Montgomery Biscuits where he won the Southern League championship in 2006. Montoyo coached the Durham Bulls for the last four years. 2010 was a record setting year for Montoyo and the Bulls as they set a franchise Triple-A record for wins with 92.

Montoyo was a coach for the Puerto Rican 2009 World Baseball Classic team. Also he was selected to serve as a coach for World Team in the 2010 and 2011 All-Star Futures Game.

Montoyo won the 2009 Mike Coolbaugh Award[1] and 2010 International League Manager of the Year Award.[2]
