Ziba Ganiyeva

Jr. Lt. Ziba Ganiyeva ( _az. Ziba Paşa qızı Qəniyeva, b. August 20, 1923, Gulustan, Uzbek SSR) is an Azeri Philological Sciences Candidate (1965) and a former WWII female sniper (Northwestern Front, 3rd Moscow Communist Division), ["Azerbaijan Soviet Encyclopedia" (1979), vol. 3, p. 137] accounted for 21 kills and awarded with the Medal For the Defence of Moscow, Combat Order of the Red Banner and the Order of the Red Star. In 1940 Ziba have entered the Lunacharsky Moscow State Institute of Dramatic Art, however volunteered shortly after the opening of the Eastern Front of World War II. She was accompanied by another sniper, Nina Solovey. Ziba's military service was discontinued by heavy wound during the reconnaissance operation and subsequent hospitalization.
