On July 2nd of 1950, the USS "Juneau", HMS "Black Swan", and HMS "Jamaica" were sailing along the coast of the Sea Of Japan when they encountered a fleet of North Korean torpedo and gunboats that had just finished escorting a flotilla of ten ammunition ships up the coast. The North Korean torpedo boats decided to make good of the situation and began an attack run on the allied ships. Before their torpedoes could be fired however, they were met with a salvo of gunfire from the enemy ships which destroyed three of the gunboats. The rest of the North Korean craft fled, but later in July the Juneau rediscovered the same ammunition ships it had encountered in this action and destroyed them.
Aftermath
This seemingly short and small battle was significant in the war because allied naval power had so frightened the North Korean naval commanders that they decided not to again try to contest control of the seas around Korea.Fact|date=September 2008 After this action and until the armistice, Allied naval operations consisted merely of combat against North Korean
auxillaries and shore emplacements.ources
