After winning the
Rebel Stakes atOaklawn Park Race Track , on the same track Pine Bluff beatLil E. Tee by a neck in theArkansas Derby but finished fifth to him as the upset winner in the ensuingKentucky Derby that had been dominated by the talk about the overwhelming favoriteArazi who finished eighth. Under jockeyChris McCarron , Pine Bluff came back to win thePreakness Stakes that was to be the first of two straight Preakness wins for trainer, Tom Bohannan. In the final leg of the Triple Crown series, Pine Bluff ran third to winnerA.P. Indy in theBelmont Stakes but earned the $1 million bonus given to the owner of the horse with the best overall performance in the Triple Crown series.Pine Bluff's racing career ended only a few weeks after the Belmont when he took a misstep during a routine training run and tore a
ligament in his left foreleg. Retired to stud duty, he sired twenty-nine stakes race winners and was pensioned in 2006.References
