Downtown New City

Downtown New City is the downtown business district of New City, New York, a suburb of New York City and county seat of Rockland County, New York. The area is used for business, shopping, and a hang-out area for teenagers.

Housing

Although mostly industrial, Downtown New City has some places of residence. There are apartments above many stores on South Main St. and some on Maple Ave. There also houses on Maple Ave, 3rd St., and Park Ave. There are two houses on South Main St. that were probably built years before the area became developed.Fact|date=October 2008 There are also apartment buildings on South Main St., and Maple Ave. There is also a townhouse development on Demerest Ave. Despite these places of residence, the downtown area is mostly industrial with many more stores, restaurants, historic buildings, banks, and offices than housing units.

Location within New City, New York

Downtown is located in the center of New City. The northern border of the neighborhood goes from South Main St.'s intersection with Congers Rd., east to where Congers Rd. intersects with Route 304. The southern border is where South Main St. turns into Route 304. In other words, downtown is anything south of Congers Rd., west of Route 304, and east by southeast of the courthouse.
