John Donald Medinger (April 26, 1948-) is a
La Crosse, Wisconsin area politician and lecturer at theUniversity of Wisconsin - La Crosse . [http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/dictionary/index.asp?action=view&term_id=1862&letter=M] He was elected to theWisconsin State Assembly in 1976, representing the 95th district and served that post for sixteen years unil 1992. During his time in the assembly, he climbed the political ladder all the way Assistant Majority Leader. After he left the assembly in 1992, he worked for US SenatorRuss Feingold until 1996. In 1996, after the retirement of longtime La Crosse Mayor Patrick Zielke, he ran for mayor. He won the election over political newcomer Dan Herber. In 2000, he won reelection in landslide over alderman Gerald Every. In 2004, he retired from Mayor of La Crosse. In 2005, he accepted a job at theUniversity of Wisconsin-La Crosse as an associate lecturer of political science. He emphesizes in state and local government teachings. Today, he also is a member of the La Crosse County Board, as well as US SenatorHerb Kohl 's La Crosse area representative. His family has also been prominent in local politics. His father was a long time alderman and county supervisor, his sister Sonja ran for La Crosse County treasurer, his sister Linda is a congressional staffer forRon Kind , and his brother Tim is a Holmen School Board representative.
