Gene and jude's

Gene & Jude's is a hot dog stand located at 2724 N. River Road in River Grove, Il. Since its opening in 1950 it has established a large cult following, and is considered to serve one of the best hot dogs in the Chicago Land area. The stand is also famous for its limited, but sufficient menu of hot dogs, tamales, fries and drinks. On May 1st, 2006 the Vienna Beef company inducted the Chicago icon into the hot dog hall of fame.

History

In 1946 Gene Mormino started a hot dog stand at Polk & Western Streets in Chicago, Il. Four years later, with his partner, Gene & Jude's opened in River Grove, Il.

The Hot Dog

The hot dog served at Gene & Jude's is a 100% pure Vienna Beef natural casing hotdog. The bun is steamed, and the dog is loaded with the traditional Chicago-style trimmings of mustard, sweet pickled relish, onions, sport peppers and absolutely no ketchup.

The Fries

Gene & Jude's is also known for their fresh cut, skin-on french fries that are cooked to order. The potatoes are never frozen, and are sliced directly into the fryer.

The Set Up

Perhaps the most notable trait of a Gene & Jude's hot dog is its presentation. They take the hot dog, fully loaded with trimming, and put the fries directly on top. Then they wrap the delicacy together in yellow paper, creating a most unique flavor combination.

Fun Fact

Gene & Jude's is located next to a combo BP Gas station and McDonald's. The McDonald's does not leave Ketchup out and has posted charge amounts for Ketchup packets as they were tired of being the free ketchup resource next door.

In September 2008, Gene & Jude's was flooded by the Des Plains river.
