Three variations of this mold exist. The original Cruellock, and recolors called Doomlock (Hasbro exclusive) and Dinobot Magma Type (Takara exclusive).

Animated series

In the animated series Cruellock is treated as mass produced Terrorcon type.

Cruellock is a type of Terrorcon as seen on the "" series; they turn into The American Godzilla-style raptors. Unlike previous models, the Cruellocks are a powerful and cunning breed of Terrorcon, combining incredible strength with lightning speed. In their dinosaur modes, they attack by jumping to great heights and use their talons and fangs on their victims. In robot mode, the Energon-blades that they use can slice through anything.

Dreamwave Productions

In the comic series Cruellock is the name of a Decepticon who joined the Terrorcons under the leadership of Scorponok.

Cruellock would first appear in Energon #19, as part of a group meeting of the Terrorcons gatecrashed by Starscream, who was promptly disposed of by Scorponok. Cruellock had a different background to the show incarnation - he was a renegade Decepticon unhappy with the peace that had come over Cybertron since the defeat of Unicron ten years previously. Cruellock and the other Terrorcons were enhanced by Unicron in return for finding him energon. The Terrorcons headed to Earth to plunder its energon but were beaten back by its Autobot defenders.

Frustrated, Unicron teleported them away and sent them back with a new trick - the ability to mass-produce clones of themselves (reminiscent of the Insecticons). Cruellock would attack Tokyo only to be beaten back by an unexpected foe - Megatron, who decimated Cruellock's clones and forced him to retreat.

Other appearances

The Cruellock action figure was used for the character Mecha-Gino in Sean McGuinness' webcomic Twisted Kaiju Theater.

Toys

*Energon Cruellock:In 2006 Cruellock was also repackaged for the Universe line.

*Energon Doomlock was repackaged for the Universe toy line in late 2005, however he has not appeared in any of the Universe storyline.

*Transformers 3D Battle-Card Game Cruellock (2007):Produced by Wizards of the Coast, wave 2 of their Transformers 3D Battle-Card Game included a Cruellock card.
