Donald W. Parry Ph.D. is a professor of Hebrew Bible in the Department of Asian and Near Eastern Languages at Brigham Young University. He holds the Abraham O. Smoot Professorship. He is the author and editor of many works related to the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Old Testament. He served as a member of the Board of the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) at Brigham Young University from 1988 to 2007. [1]

Biography

Parry was born in Nampa, Idaho to Atwell Parry, a former Idaho state senator,[2] and Elaine Parry. He is the fourth child of seven. At the age of eleven, he moved with his family to Melba, Idaho, where he worked in his father's grocery store. He married his college sweetheart, Camille and they are the parents of six children.


He has authored or edited more than twenty-seven books (and has written and published more than eighty articles. http://mormonscholarstestify.org/1774/donald-w-parry


He is making a contribution for the current Biblia Hebraica Quinta project. In additon to writing six books on Isaiah, Parry brings fifteen years of work on the Dead Sea Scrolls. As one of the scrolls' international team of translators, he translated the Books of Samuel and has authored fifteen volumes on the Dead Sea Scrolls.[3]


He is a member of several other organizations, including the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament, (Groningen, The Netherlands), the Princeton Dead Sea Scrolls Society, (Princeton, New Jersey), Society for Biblical Literature, (Atlanta, Georgia), and the National Association of Professors of Hebrew, (Madison, Wisconsin). Parry also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Brigham Young University's Institute for the Study and Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts from 1987–2005. [4]
