Ephemeral Museum

The Ephemeral Museum is the first ephemeral art museum in the world.

It’s located in Bairro Alto, in the heart of Portugal’s capital, Lisbon. This museum is sponsored by Pampero Fundación and it’s part of the Pampero Rum campaign, developed by Leo Burnett Lisboa advertising agency.

The street art works, which were already decorating the streets (stencils, graffitis, stickers and other formats), were the starting point for this project. To turn it into a museum, the participating artists were contacted and enough information was collected to record an audio guide. The texts were recorded in Portuguese, English and German. Just like in a traditional museum. Besides, a map with the selected works was created and signs were placed to identify the works. Each board contains the work’s title, the artist’s name and the corresponding number in the audio guide.

The concept of ephemeral art stands on the risk that a work exhibited on the streets takes of being damaged. Nevertheless, when one work disappears, another might be arising.

The repercussion of the Ephemeral Museum in the media all over the world is hard to go unnoticed. Today, it is already known among artists, street art admirers and the general public.

The Ephemeral Museum started in Lisbon and will grow to other cities, to become the biggest museum in the world.
