- Jan Boklöv
Jan Boklöv (born
April 14 ,1966 , inKoskullskulle nearGällivare ,Sweden ) is one of the most successful Swedish ski jumpers of all time, probably only rivaled bySven Selånger . He won the World Cup in 1988/89, and dominated the Swedish championships in the late 1980s. He is however most known for inventing theV-style , which has been the standard among ski jumpers since the 1990s. He developed this style inadvertently, because of the natural shape of his legs. Whereas he got style point reductions for the first few years of his career because of this unique style, it was eventually proven that the V-style provides more lift than the traditional style and was set as the standard.Boklöv competed in two
Winter Olympics , finishing seventh in the team large hill event atCalgary in 1988 and 47th in the individual normal hill atAlbertville in 1992. At the1989 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships inLahti , he finished fifth in the team large hill and tenth in the individual normal hill events for his best finishes. In 1990 atVikersund , Boklöv finished 27th at theSki-flying World Championships .Boklöv earned five individual World Cup career victories, all earned during his 1988-89 World Cup run.
He also won the very prestigious title "
Jerring priset " in 1989 where the swedish people decide the winner.External links
