Hans Belting (born 1935) is a German
art historian and theorist of medieval andRenaissance art , as well ascontemporary art and image theory.Background
Belting studied at the universities of
Mainz andRome , and took his doctorate in art history at theUniversity of Mainz . Subsequently he has held a fellowship atDumbarton Oaks (Harvard University ),Washington .Belting taught as a
professor at theUniversity of Hamburg in 1966.
