Jimmy Smallhorne is a film writer and director. His first film was "
2by4 " about Irish laborers in New York, in which he also acted. Other films include "Pushers Needed " (2005), and acted in "When the Sky Falls " (2000).He was one of eight children from a Roman Catholic family in
Ballyfermot ,Dublin ,Republic of Ireland . He won a green card in a visa lottery and came to the United States. He worked in construction on building sites like many other immigrants (documented and otherwise), where he apparently thought up the idea for his first film, "2by4" (1998), which he made with the help of, among others, cinematographerDeclan Quinn ("Leaving Las Vegas ", "Vanya on 42nd Street ", "Kama Sutra "), a brother of Irish-American actorAidan Quinn ."
