Fifth Avenue (Brooklyn)

Fifth Avenue (Brooklyn)

Fifth Avenue is an important thoroughfare in the New York City borough of Brooklyn.

The avenue runs south for 5.5 miles from its intersection with Atlantic Avenue in Fort Greene just southeast of Downtown Brooklyn through the neighborhoods of Park Slope and Sunset Park until it ends at a merger with Fourth Avenue in Bay Ridge.

Throughout its length, Fifth Avenue caters to the retail industry in the form of grocery stores, 99 cents stores, various clothing and shoe shops as well as numerous restaurants and fast food chains. These business however are usually only located on the first floors of the two to four storey buildings that line the avenue. The upper floors are usually occupied by several residential apartments. There is a stretch along its route from 24th Street to 36th Street where Fifth Avenue borders the Green-Wood Cemetery which contains mainly light industry and some single family residences.

New York City Transit's Brooklyn surface Fifth Avenue Line runs along the length of the avenue as the B-63 with stops at an average of two blocks apart.
