Playing career
On 18 August 2000, his contract with Lincoln City was cancelled by mutual consent. Barnett had injured his Achilles in a reserve match at Scunthorpe United in April 2000 and despite months of treatment and rehabilitation, on specialist's advice he had to retire from professional football.[1]
Coaching career
After finishing his league career he joined Halesowen Town as first-team coach in March 2001,[2] leaving to join the coaching staff at former club Birmingham City's Academy. He later played for Moor Green.[3]
In July 2009, after returning to Birmingham from the United States of America,[4] he made a return to football linking up with Romulus.[5] He debuted for the club in the 1–0 Southern Football League Division One Central defeat at Leighton Town on 15 August 2009[6] and in February 2010 was appointed first-team coach at the club.[7] In May 2010, he agreed to continue in the role for the 2010–11 season.[8]
