- Residence Park, New Rochelle
Residence Park is a community located within the borders of The City of New Rochelle in
Westchester County ,New York . The area was one of the first planned communities in the country, created by Adrian Iselin, a prominent New York City financier and businessman. One of the fundamental goals was to create an area that blended in with the natural topagraphy, designed around large, commongarden areas, landscaped islands and traffic medians and winding streets. Its boundaries are theBoston Post Road and the Downtown area on the north and Pelham Road andLong Island Sound on the south.There are a number of historically significant structures including the country home of the American
patriot andHuguenot Lewis Pintard. Louis Pintard was a member of theCommittee of One Hundred inNew York before theRevolution . He founded theChamber of Commerce ofNew York . As a New York merchant, Pintard servedGeneral Washington as Commissary for the prisoners in New York City. His son, adopted from his deceased brother, founded theNew York Historical Society , served as secretary of theNew York Chamber of Commerce , and was elected first Sagamore of theTammany Society . The First Presbyterian Church of New Rochelle (Pintard Church) was built next to the Pintard House, which has been incorporated into the church property as the priory. The house and the church are listed on theNational Register of Historic Places . Other notable structures include the home ofLou Gehrig located on Meadow Lane; theCollege of New Rochelle , and the former summer estate of Simeon Leland, "Castleview", also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Geographic location
