Plot
In the 1970's, a slasher flick was released-named the Dark Beneath. The director and star of the movie Ted Radford suffers a mental breakdown and is admitted to a psychiatric ward. Well he kills a doctor and escapes. The film changes to five years later at local theater where a midnight horror movie is showing-The Dark Beneath. We are introduced to three of the theater's employees-Rachel, Bridget and Kenny. A biker couple-Harley and Babe-arrive to watch the movie as well as Bridget's younger brother Timmy, who wishes to see the movie. Bridget's boyfriend Josh comes and pressures Bridget into her coming to watch the movie with him-despite Bridget is working. Kenny offers to cover for Bridget and Bridget and Josh take a seat in the theater. Josh's friend Mario and his girlfriend Samantha arrive and take a seat with Bridget and Josh.
Meanwhile, Detective Barrons is looking for the notorious Ted Radford, sure he will be at the theater on the night that Dark Beneath is screening. Back in the theater, an awkward friend of Josh, Sully arrives and sits with Bridget, Josh, Mario and Samantha. Detective Barrons pays to see the movie and enters the theater, and Kenny starts the movie. It's a black and white film-supiciously similar to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Ted Radford's psychiatrist, Dr. Wayne, shows up to stake out the theater with Detective Barrons. Back in the lobby, Kenny goes down to the storage room to retrieve syrup. Bridget storms out of the theater and when Josh comforts her, we learn that the film reminded her of her abusive father that gave Bridget a scar on her arm. Back in the theater, Kenny is killed by the same killer in Dark Beneath with a large corkscrew-the same weapon used by the killer in the movie. And Kenny's death is shown on the big screen! Somehow the killer is putting the deaths of the people in the theater in the movie. The teens realize that he looks familiar.
Sully is next when he retreats to use the restroom and his heart is gored out with the corkscrew-his death is also shown on the big screen. Josh, Bridget, Mario and Samantha think it is an elaborate prank. Rachel is next-killed in the lobby. Josh, Bridget, Mario, Samantha, the biker couple, the detective and the doctor rush to the lobby to find blood-the teens still think Sully is pranking them. In the bathroom, the teens learn that this is real as the detective tells them. Back in the theater, they discover Timmy that has been secretly been watching the movie. And to everyone's horror, they all discover they are trapped in the theater under the mercy of Ted Radford-who has already killed three of their friends. Radford suddenly appears and slashes the psychiatrist's throat. The detective shoots Radford, but he escapes. They keep trying to find an exit. They attempt to escape from an upstairs window. The killer makes an entrance and Harley and Babe flee. The teens and the detective try to get out the window but Radford slams the window closed on Samantha's hands. Mario, Timmy and Bridget run and Radford kills the detective with the corkscrew-stabbing it through him and then plunging it into Samantha-killing her.
The biker couple, Bridget, Timmy and Josh meet up with Mario and Harley gets ready to kill Mario for leaving his girlfriend but Bridget stops him. They try to get the attention of a police officer outside the theater, but the officer doesn't see them-they are invisible to the officer. The killer doesn't want the officer to see them. They try to get into the projector room to turn off the movie but the door is locked. Timmy tries to climb into the room through the ventilation duct and he gets in, and just as Josh is about to be killed by Radford, Harley turns off the movie and the killer disappears. But it doesn't work for long as the film magically starts by itself, the projector just repairs it self and Radford appears and chases them all. Harley, Babe and Timmy hide in a closet but the killer breaks through the door and stabs Harley in the stomach with the corkscrew.
Bridget, Josh and Mario run to the theater where they witness Babe getting killed. They realize Radford can smell their fear. Mario runs upstairs towards the office to try the window again and finds Timmy-and Radford who electrocutes and kills Mario. Meanwhile, Josh is killed and Bridget flees. She finds Timmy and together they get sucked into the movie world where Bridget finds herself in a basement. She wanders around, finding her friends dead and chained up. The killer catches her and ties her up. He tortures her verbally and physically. She begins chanting the Lord's Prayer. He then tips her over in the bed and she shoots up and stabs him in the neck with one of the screws from her wrist shackles. She frees Timmy and they run, but the woman from the movie-the killer's mother-attacks Bridget. But Timmy stabs the mother in the back with a sickle just when Radford shows up. He chases them out of the house and Bridget sees "The End" of the movie so she throws Timmy back into the real world and Bridget is killed in the real movie-leaving Timmy as the sole survivor and the film ends as police arrive.
