Highland mills fire company

The Highland Mills Fire Company was formed in 1890 in the town of Woodbury, Orange County, New York, United States and is now currently joined with Central Valley Fire Company to form the Woodbury Fire Department [ http://www.woodburyfire.com/index2.html Woodbury Fire Department] The company responds with both engine and ladder apparatus.

Their oldest piece of apparatus is a 1999 Spartan/Smeal tanker with the apparatus number 522. It has a 10-man cab, a 2000 gallon water tank, a 1250 GPM pump, and a portable tank. This is the first responding piece of apparatus for the company to a large-scale tractor trailer fire and any structural fire where no water hydrants are present.

Truck 503, acquired from the Central Valley Fire Company in 2004, is a 2002 Spartan Gladiator/Smeal. It has a 75 foot rear-mount aerial ladder, a 1500 GPM pump, 400 gallon tank, and a 6-man cab. It is first due for most structural incidents. In the past, there has been tension on which fire company should have possession of this unit, especially with it being Woodbury's first truck ever.

The newest edition to the family is Engine 525. It is a Spartan/Smeal that arrived in April 2008, replacing a 1990 Pierce. It has a 6-man cab, a 1500 GPM pump, a 1000 gallon water tank, and a 8 kilo-watt PTO generator. Engine 525 is first engine responding to accidents and car fires. Many times it will get out second behind Truck 503.

In addition, Highland Mills Fire Company owns a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe. This unit does many tasks including personel transport and serves as a Deputy Chief vehicle.
