The Holyland is an American region located mainly in northeastern

The region takes it name from the religious names that immigrants used to name communities in the region. These German-speaking
Roman Catholic immigrants came from theVulkaneifel region of RhenishPrussia in the late 1800s. These immigrants left the region to find better economic conditions. A second wave came in the 1860s and 1870s and some of these immigrants had friends and families from the first wave. The area has been called "The Holyland" since at least 1898.
