Daniel Garlitsky (Russian: Даниил Борисович Гарлицкий) (born September 8, 1982 in Moscow, Russia) is a Russian violinist.

Biography

Born into a family of violinists and pedagogues in Moscow, Daniel Garlitsky was accepted to the specialised “Gnessin” school at the age of 6, beginning violin and piano studies there. In 1991 the Garlitsky family moved to France where the young boy continued his tuition at the Lyon Conservatory and, upon graduation, gained highest distinctions.

In 1999, Daniel Garlitsky became a student of the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris. After three years, he obtained a first prize in violin and chamber music and a special award for the outstanding performance he gave during his final recital. Parallel to his studies at the Conservatoire, Mr Garlitsky was a scholarship-holder at various international masterclasses and summer music-academies. His teachers have included his father, Boris Garlitsky as well as Matis Vaitsner, Igor Volochine, Pierre Laurent Aimard, Rainer Kussmaul and Glenn Dicterow.

Whilst still studying, Daniel Garlitsky came to the attention of Gidon Kremer who duly invited him to perform at the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival. Furthermore, Daniel Garlitsky repeatedly appeared at festivals throughout Europe, including Estate Musicale a Portogruaro, Radio France Montpellier and Folle Journée de Nantes, playing with acclaimed artists such as Augustin Dumay, Bruno Giuranna, Charles Neidich, Oleg Maisenberg and Maria João Pires.

As a soloist, Mr Garlitsky performed under the baton of Mishiyoshi Inoue, Vladimir Jurowski and Dmitry Sitkovetsky in Europe (Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Teatro Nuovo Giovanni in Udine, Teatro Comunale in Ferrara) and Japan (Yokohama Kenmin Hall). Mr Garlitsky explores the wider field of music-making with passion. This leads him to regular solo performances on period instruments with baroque ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. In the 2006-2007 season, Mr Garlitsky performed as leader and conductor of the Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra in major halls such as Zurich Tonhalle, Rudolfinum Prague and Berliner Philharmonie and in 2008, has led the Residentie Orchestra as its guest concertmaster.
