Matt Landau (born 1982) is an American writer and entrepreneur known as founder of The Panama Report, one of the first online and print publications with first-hand accounts in the Republic of Panama, Central America.
Originally from New Jersey, Landau graduated from Princeton High School in 2001. He received his bachelor's degree in international economics at the University of Richmond, Virginia in 2005. He founded The Panama Report LLC with Casey Halloran, an entrepreneur from Pennsylvania. The company was subsequently acquired by the nation branding syndicate The Country Report, a management agency for the reputations of nations. He is a member of the Association for Nation Branding and Public Diplomacy, specializing in the fields of online reputations and destination branding.
Landau is the owner of Los Cuatro Tulipanes, a boutique hotel in Panama's UNESCO World Heritage Site of Casco Viejo. He purchased the hotel in 2007 from a team of Dutch hoteliers who also operate hotels in Europe. An expert in search engine optimization, Landau is primarily known for contributions to his companies' online marketing divisions. He is also credited with coining the term 'recession tourism' as low costs of living, accessibility, and friendly immigration laws apply from a tourism perspective to the developing nation of Panama.
