Phynd is a LAN-indexing search engine used to facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing over a local-area network.
Although the search engine merely indexes public data that users elect to share through an integrated sharing feature in Microsoft Windows, its creators were sued by the RIAA for copyright infringement. The main developer, Jesse Jordan, settled outside of court for $12,000.
