Huck Hodge

Huck Hodge (b. 1977, Gainesville, FL) is an American composer resident in Seattle, Washington.

Hodge's music "is influenced by the fields of Psychoacoustics and Cognition, eastern and western philosophical inquiry and music of the early Renaissance" [http://music.columbia.edu/~hodge/bio.htm Biography of Huck Hodge] ] . From an aesthetic standpoint, his works are influenced by French Spectralism while maintaining rhythmic and textural complexity that is reminiscent of music of the German post-war Avant Garde [http://www.concertzender.nl Dossier at Concertzender Radio Netherlands] ] .

Biography

Hodge's first musical training took place in Oregon. In 1999 he began a course of study in Germany at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart with funding from the "Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst". Between 2002 and 2008 he was an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellow at Columbia University where he studied Composition under the instruction of Tristan Murail and Fred Lerdahl [http://128.59.116.22/columbiacomposers/alumni/13/ Profile at Columbia University] ] .

Hodge is the winner of the 2008 Gaudeamus Prize and the Aaron Copland Award from the Bogliasco Foundation. He is currently Assistant Professor in Composition at the University of Washington, Seattle.
