Brian Lee grew up in Moorhead,
Minnesota and was a stand out player for the Moorhead High School Spuds hockey team. In 2004–05 Lee played junior hockey for theLincoln Stars of theUSHL and had an outstanding season. For his season, he was selected Minnesota's Mr. Hockey as the number one player inMinnesota high school boys hockey in 2005. He was also named theAssociated Press ' Player of the Year for Minnesota prep boys hockey that year. That year, his senior year, he was one of the few high school players to play for Team USA in theWorld Junior Hockey Championships .In the
2005 NHL Entry Draft , theOttawa Senators drafted Lee in the first round, 9th overall. Lee chose to attend theUniversity of North Dakota and played for the college team for two years. Lee would play for the USA at the2006 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships .Lee made his professional hockey debut in the 2007-2008 season. Ottawa assigned him to their
American Hockey League affiliate, theBinghamton Senators , after training camp. Lee was named to the AHL All-Star Game roster in the 2007-08 season. Lee made his NHL debut on March 25, 2008, against theBuffalo Sabres atHSBC Arena in a 6–3 win for Ottawa.
