"Tribute" is a play by
Bernard Slade .The plot focuses on Scottie Templeton, a popular actor who has spent his life shirking responsibility. When he discovers he is terminally ill with
leukemia , he attempts to reconnect with his long-estranged son.After four previews, the Broadway production, directed by
Arthur Storch , opened onJune 1 ,1978 at theBrooks Atkinson Theatre where, withJack Lemmon in the lead role, it ran for 212 performances. The cast includedRobert Picardo ,Catherine Hicks , andRosemary Prinz .Lemmon was nominated for both a Tony and a
Drama Desk Award for his performance.In 1980, Slade adapted his play for a feature film directed by
Bob Clark in which Lemmon recreated the lead role. The supporting cast includedRobby Benson ,Lee Remick ,Colleen Dewhurst ,John Marley , andKim Cattrall . Lemmon was nominated for anAcademy Award for Best Actor .External links
