September 6 ,1970 inAustin, Texas . He is the lead singer of thealt-country bandOld 97's as well as being a successful solo musician. He graduated fromSt. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas (a private school for boys) in 1989 and briefly attendedSarah Lawrence College on a creative writing scholarship before dropping out to pursue a music career. His first musical endeavor was in 1990 with Murry Hammond and drummer Benjamin Warrenfells who formed the Sleepy Heroes, an "alterna-pop" band. The Sleepy Heroes released one album, "Under a Radio Sun", before their breakup.
