- Saraswathi Sabatham
Sri Vijayalakshmi pictures presents: Saraswathi Sabatham
"Saraswathi Sabatham" tells the story of how the three goddesses had a fight about who was the best out of the three. Narada (Sivaji Ganesan) , who is a sage and the celestial troublemaker, is the one who begins the fight by going to Saraswathi's abode and asking her which is better, knowledge or wealth. Saraswathi (Savithri) answers that of course knowledge is the best. She swears that she is the best. That is how the title "Saraswathi Sabatham" came about. Then Narada goes to Vaikuntha and asks Lakshmi which is the best knowledge or wealth. Lakshmi (Devika) says obviously welath is the best. Then Narada goes to the Himalayas and questions Parvati (Padmini) which is best, knowledge, wealth, or strength. Parvati tells him there is no question about it and of course strength is the best. Each of the goddesses' husbands try to wind up their wives by saying another thing is the best, not the thing their wife is the goddess of. The three goddesses each decide to single out someone on earth and give them powers. Saraswathi makes a dumb person, Vidyapati (Sivaji Ganesan), able to speak and gives him all the knowledge in the world. There is a place where a Maharaja rules but he has no children. He is dying so his minister sends the royal elephant into the streets with a garland. The person who's neck the elephant puts the garland on will be the next Maharani or Maharaja. Lakshmi controls the royal elephant and makes it garland a beggar girl. No the beggar girl is very wealthy and lives in a palace. There is someone who is very frightened of everything and has been a coward by birth (Gemini Ganesan). Parvati makes him very strong. The three humans fight and the three goddesses fight, but in the end they all realise that knowledge, wealth and strength are all equal in different ways.
