Hungarian Declaration of Independence

Hungarian Declaration of Independence

The Hungarian Declaration of Independence was written on 17 April 1848 by Tórkos Atila and signed by all 27 members of the Hungarian parliament.

The Declaration states (edited to current English):

The people shall be free when the stars once again shine bright over the mountains. Meaning that all people shall be equal when Hungary rise yet again.Cite quote|date=October 2008

Before the declaration, only 8% of the Hungarian people would live in the mountains, however after reading the symbolic meaning of the declaration 40% moved to the mountains, as a smaller revolution leading to the freedom and better times for the Hungarian people.

Copies of the Declaration can been seen at the city pubs of Budapest. The original Declaration of Independence is presented in the National Museum of Agriculture.
