Misc ="Right Time of the Night" is the title of a popular song by the American singer
Jennifer Warnes . The song was written bysinger-songwriter Peter McCann and appears on Warnes' 1976 self-titled debut album. The song was one of the last additions to the album and was included at the suggestion of
Clive Davis , then president of Warnes' label,Arista Records . Davis wanted a single to be released from the album but didn't know if any of the existing tracks would work. Warnes has been quoted as saying that "Clive picked 'I'm Dreaming' and 'Right Time of the Night', and he brought in Jim Ed Norman, who arranges strings for theEagles , to give those songs very explicit tracks."Hyatt, Wesley (1999). "The Billboard Book of #1 Adult Contemporary Hits" (Billboard Publications)]"Right Time of the Night" became Warnes' debut single on the American music charts. It peaked at #6 on the "Billboard" Hot 100 chart for two weeks in May 1977.Whitburn, Joel (1996). "The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits", 6th Edition (Billboard Publications)] The previous month, the song became Warnes' first #1 on the "Billboard" adult contemporary chart. It also reached #17 on the "Billboard" country music chart.
Warnes would continue to record music through the 1980s, when she participated in two very popular duets: "
Up Where We Belong ", a duet withJoe Cocker from the 1982 film "An Officer and a Gentleman "; and "(I've Had) The Time of My Life ", sung withBill Medley from the 1987 film "Dirty Dancing ". Both of these songs reached #1 on the "Billboard" Hot 100 chart, while the 1987 track became Warnes' second #1 on the adult contemporary chart. The song has been covered by other artists, including country music singers
Reba McEntire andLynn Anderson . Both of these versions were recorded during the late 1970s, though neither were released as singles.Credits
