The Uboynaya River is a
river in theTaymyr Peninsula ,Krasnoyarsk Krai ,Russian Federation . Its source is in theByrranga Mountains .It flows across desolate tundra regions into theKara Sea . The lichen "Dactylina arctica" is common and abundant in the area. In 1922, while leading a geological expedition,
Nikolay Urvantsev found abandoned skis at the mouth of the Uboynaya River. They belonged toRoald Amundsen 's 1919 Arctic expedition's ill-fated crew membersPeter Tessem and Paul Knutsen .
