Earth Metabolic Design Laboratories was founded in 1984 by three psychedelic therapists, Alise Agar, Rick Doblin, and Deborah Harlow, to support psychedelic research. Ecstasy: the Complete Guide, Inner Traditions International, 2001; ISBN 0-89281-857-3, pages 369-386.] It was formed while MDMA was still legal and the organization coordinated the activities of therapists, scientists, lawyers, and others to respond to the DEA's proposed placement of the drug in Schedule I. The organization requested that the DEA hold a hearing before scheduling. The organization apparently became inactive shortly thereafter and Doblin went on to focus his energies on forming a 'psychedelic orphan drug pharmaceutical company' that, in 1986, was named the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies [ [http://www.maps.org/dea-mdma/pdf/0171.PDF Doblin, Rick.
