Cliff McNish

Cliff McNish (Sunderland, 24 August 1962) is a fantasy author for young adults. His books are notable for their use of bizarre, intense imagery. He visits many schools as well to talk about how he became a writer.

The Doomspell Trilogy

The Doomspell Trilogy is a fantasy trilogy. The books are:

• The Scent of Magic
• The Wizard's Promise

The books are mainly about two young and gifted siblings, Rachel and Eric. Rachel is extraordinarily gifted in the use of magic, whereas Eric is unique in his ability of destroying spells and cancelling out magic.

The Silver Sequence

The Silver Sequence is a fantasy trilogy. The books are:

Breathe

[Breathe: A Ghost Story] is a stand-alone novel about a group of ghost children: Ann, Oliver, Gwyneth and Charlie. They should be on the "other side," however, the Ghost Mother trapped their souls in the ancient house. The only way for the Ghost Mother to stay in the living world is to keep feeding off the ghost children, sucking out their spirit-energy. Once the children are all out of energy, they are claimed by the "Nightmare Passage." Jack has just moved into the big old house that the ghosts live in with his mum. He suffers badly with asthma. The Ghost Mother wants to make him love her and tries to replace his own mother. The ghost children discover that they can talk to Jack and find that he is their only chance of being saved from the Nightmare Passage. Jack will have to use his gift to help the ghosts children. The question is, will Jack be able to fend off the Ghost Mother long enough to let them be free?

Angel

This book is about two girls who are inextricably linked by destiny, not choice.

Freya, a teenager who since the age of eight has been obsessed with angels after seeing one in her bedroom. But as soon as she gets her life back to normal, almost perfect, she cannot stop seeing them everywhere. But she is about to learn that she is a half angel and it will change her life.

Stephanie is friendless, strange, a misfit who has always been interested, almost obsessive, about angels. This obsession has alienated her, but she finds hope in Freya, who she is somehow drawn to. However, things take a turn for the worse and she has to question if what she believes in is actually true, and whether it is all worth it.
