Vellatanjoor is a small village in the
Trichur District ofKerala ,India on the banks ofKechery Puzha. The main occupation of the people is farming which you can see from the vast paddy fields there. The main religions there areHinduism &Christanity .Muslims are not found in Vellatanjoor due to a curse that the people there believe has been put by Kootumuchikal Amma the "Thatakthamma" (Local Goddess) whenTippu Sultan ravished the land during his reign.The village is very quiet and serene due to its location on the bank of the Kechery PuzhaFact|date=September 2008.
The Panikaveetil Family is a major family in the area. They were the care takers of the land during the time of the
Zamorin Rule when the land was a part ofMalabar Province.There are 3 major temples in the region. Kootumuchi Temple , Erakad Subramnaswami Temple & The Sree Rama Temple. There is a Christian church the Fathima Matha Church.
Festivals
There are 3 major festivals other then the usual festivals of Kerala lke Onam and Vishu.The Annual Pooram celebrated during the month of January-February with elephant processions and Panchavadyam(Temple Band)at the Kootumuchikal Temple.
