Hassan Akhbar, born 21st April 1971 in Watts, Los Angeles, California to Quran Bilal and John Akbar [http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7550365/] .was a Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army who killed fellow soldiers in Kuwait during the US occupation of Iraq [http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/556] .

A military jury at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, sentenced Sergeant Hassan Akbar to death for killing two officers and wounding 14 other soldiers in Kuwait in 2003.

The 15-person jury deliberated seven hours before returning the sentence. The same jury last week convicted Akbar of two counts of premeditated murder and three counts of attempted premeditated murder.

Akbar threw grenades into troop tents at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait on the 23rd March 2003 and then fired on soldiers in the ensuing chaos. Prosecutors said the attack was driven by Akbar's religious extremism, and his belief that killing Iraqis was wrong.
