- Cecil H. Moore
Cecil H. Moore was an architect and builder born in 1913 and active in
Tucson during the early and mid 20th century. He worked in the offices ofMerritt Starkweather andHenry Jaastad after his arrival to Tucson in 1926. He set up his own firm in 1935 becoming a registered Architect in 1936. He designed and building many of the opulent mansions around the El Conquistador Hotel. These elegant Spanish andMission Revival properties can be seen in theNational Register of Historic Places listed subdivisions of El Encanto, El Montevideo, Colonia Solona, and San Clemente. Over his career he built around 350 buildings in and around Tucson including the iconic and beloved Art Deco Gas Station at 648 N. Stone, many of the charming motor courts and mid-century motels along Tucson’s segment ofU.S. Route 80 , and the modernist Anshei Israel synagogue at 6th Street and Campbell Avenue.Described by
