"Hip Today" is the second and last single off Extreme's fourth studio album "Waiting for the Punchline". It is also the last single the band released before breaking up and reforming in 2007.

Although the song is, like the first single "Cynical", more grunge driven like the whole album, it is one of the only songs on the record which still have some funk rock elements and influence in them.

As the band tried to fit the grunge scene at the time by changing their musical style, their last album before the break-up, "Waiting for the Punchline", proved to be a commercial failure as well as the two singles "Cynical" and "Hip Today". After the song proved to be a failure in the charts as well, the band disbanded, releasing only 2 singles off the album.
