Theirlead vocalist was Peter McDonald.The band, Goldie, was actually named after a type of bird. It can be assumed that Dave Black, founder of the band, was following an inspiration similar to one of his earlier combos, Kestrel, also named after another winged species. Prior to forming Goldie in 1976, Black had been touring with
David Bowie 's Spiders from Mars band. The glib cheer of that genre is challenged by the fact that the b-side to "Making Up Again" was actually entitled "Time to Kill," perhaps suggesting an alternative solution to the same problem. The Goldie band stayed together for four years, becoming one of the pop legends of their home stomping grounds, Blyth,Northumberland , and appearing numerous times ontelevision program s such as "Top of the Pops ". When the group broke up in 1980, Black went on to form 747 and play with the Brendan Healy Band.Their lack of subsequent chart success made Goldie a
