Argentina appeared in the final of the Olympic games in 1928 where they were beaten by Uruguay in the final. They also played in the 1960, 1964 and 1988 Olympic tournaments, but never progressed further than the Quarter-final.
In 1996 Argentina reached the final for the second time, they lost 3-2 against Nigeria to claim their second silver medal in the event.
In Argentina won the Olympics football tournaments in Athens 2004 against South American rivals Paraguay. They won the event without conceeding a single goal.
In the Beijing 2008 tournament Argentina successfully defended their Olympic Gold beating Nigeria 1-0 in the final.
Javier Mascherano was the only survivor from the 2004 squad and consequently became the first Argentine ever to win two Olympic Gold medals.Olympic record
