The Pearly Underwing or Variegated Cutworm (Peridroma saucia) is a species of moth of the family Noctuidae. It is found in Southern and Central Europe, but is also found further north because of its migratory nature.
The wingspan is 45-56 mm. The length of the forewings is 19-23 mm. The moth flies from May to November depending on the location.
The larvae (who are known under the common name of Variegated cutworm) feed on grasses and herbaceous plants.
