Edvard Sverdrup

Johan Edvard Sverdrup (1861 - 1923) was a Norwegian theologian.

He was born in Balestrand as the son of vicar and politician Harald Ulrik Sverdrup. Edvard Sverdrup graduated as cand.theol. in 1885. From 1885 to 1893 he worked as a teacher at the folk high school in Sogndal, established by his brother. He was also vicar ("sogneprest") in Solund.b]

In 1908 he was hired as teacher at the newly established MF Norwegian School of Theology in Oslo. He was professor there from 1918.c] He published several books, many on church history.
