Jakob Liv Rosted Sverdrup (27 March 1845 – 11 June 1899) was a Norwegian bishop and politician, who served as a member of the Norwegian parliament from 1884 to 1898. Caroline Suur 's eight children, one of five sons. Raised inBalestrand in the county ofSogn og Fjordane , his father was a prominent local figure in ecclesiastical and political affairs, as a priest, Mayor of Balestrand, and a member of the Norwegian Parliament. Johan Sverdrup, his uncle, wasPrime Minister of Norway from 1884 to 1889. Sverdrup was very close to his brotherGeorg Sverdrup , who emigrated to the United States in 1874 and later became the President of theAugsburg Seminary . Johan Edvard Sverdrup was his youngest brother who became a professor of theMF Norwegian School of Theology in Oslo.Citation

Following this appointment, Sverdrup was Minister of Education and Church Affairs from 1885–1886, then Minister of Auditing from 1886–1888. In the next election, he again took up the position of Minister of Education and Church Affairs, this time holding the post from 1888–1889 and 1895–1898. [cite web
