Paul Hollingsworth (activist)
- Paul Hollingsworth (activist)
Paul Hollingsworth (born in NorthBay, Ontario) is a Canadian environmental activist and artist.
Activism
Paul Hollingsworth began his activist career in the early 1980s as a primary of ACT for Disarmament, formerly the Against Cruise Testing (ACT) coalition. HIs background in wildlife biology spurred him to shift his focus on environmental and First Nations concerns. In 1988 he was persuaded to found the Native/Animal Brotherhood (NAB) by a coalition of Ojibway elders. This lead to speaking engagements around the world including the Land, Air, Water conference at the Portland State University, United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) and the European Parliament.
Art
Paul Hollingsworth has been recognized as important artist with the Woodlands School of art for many years. As one of the few artists schooled in the symbology involved in the art form he has been an important resource for other Ojibway artists. His volunteer work includes teaching the symbology to Native artists incarcerated within the Correctional Service of Canada.
