GeneralMariano Guadalupe Vallejo built it in 1851-1852 next to a free-flowing spring and its pool which had been named Chiucuyem (crying mountain) by the Indians and which Vallejo renamed to the roughLatin equivalent Lachryma Montis (mountain tear). OnJune 29 ,1972 , it was added to theNational Register of Historic Places .
