XMOR, whose official call letters are XHMORE but known on-air as Blazin' 98.9 FM, is a Rhythmic Top 40 station serving the San Diego-Tijuana radio market. The station, whose city of license is Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and broadcasts at 98.9 MHz with an ERP of 100,000 kW, is operated by MEC Communications, with its license and transmitter owned by a Mexican company. The XMOR calls are used for reporting to music trades and rating purposes, as well as occasional English-language station IDs.

History

XMOR originally was a Top 40 outlet with English-language music and Spanish-speaking DJs until they changed to a Spanish modern rock format in 1994 as MORE-FM. In June 2003 MEC took over the station and in February 2004 flipped it to a bilingual Hispanic Rhythmic using the slogan "Hip-hop y más." But by summer 2004 they went in an English-language Rhythmic direction and changed their moniker to Blazin' 98.9 FM. The move put them in direct competition with XHITZ-FM, a move that would have a lasting effect on the latter in terms of ratings and listeners.

Programming

XMOR-FM musical direction is Rhythmic top 40 and is a reporter on the Mediabase and BDS Rhythmic Airplay panels, with emphasis on hit-driven R&B/Hip-Hop product. However, under the mandate of the [http://www.sct.gob.mx/ Secretary of Communication and Transportation of Mexico] , up to two hours of its programming schedule is reserved on Sundays at 10 PM for public affairs and other programming in the Spanish language.

Competition

XMOR-FM has two competing stations, XHITZ-FM and KHTS-FM.
