Msasani
The beach at Msasani Bay is one of Tanzania's most polluted. The Slipway (a mall on the Msasani peninsula) is visible in the distance.

Msasani is an administrative ward in the Kinondoni district of the Dar es Salaam Region of Tanzania. According to the 2002 census, the ward has a total population of 43,457.[1]

The ward is geographically a peninsula; both the ward and the peninsula are named after the Msasani village, which used to be the only settlement in the area. The intense urbanization of the area in recent times, it is still essentially a Swahili fishermen village.

Msasani is one of the wealthiest areas in the Dar es Salaam Region. It has shops, restaurants, beauty saloons, pubs and other entertainment activities, as well as a large bazaar selling local crafts. It is also a luxury residential area, with several large villas owned by members of the Tanzanian political and economical elite. Most of these structures were built in an era of building liberalization initiated by Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi.

Public transportation in the area is mainly provided by daladalas, their main station in Msasani being at the Sea Cliff Hotel. From Msasani, motored dhows provide connection to the island of Bongoyo.[2]

The Coco Beach in Msasani is a popular holiday destination for Dar es Salaam inhabitants, although in the past shark attacks have been reported.
