The Wesley College Institute for Innovation in Education was launched on July 28 2005 by Sir Gustav Nossal and Helen Drennen, principal of Wesley College, Melbourne, Australia, “to build ideas for education”. The vision for the Institute is to gather the best minds, encourage the best talent, promote the best research and explore the best ideas to further the cause of education and to lead to the best possible outcomes for teaching and learning.Fact|date=August 2008 The Wesley College Institute is a project fully funded by Wesley College to help enrich and commit to providing a world class quality of education in Australia. Its main offices are at Wesley's St. Kilda Road Campus, however it has offices across all Wesley Campuses.

Colloquias

The Institute conducts regular colloquias to further encourage discussion and dialogue on significant issues. The colloquias attract eminent speakers and audiences from within the Wesley College community and from the wider educational community in Melbourne and around the world. The most recent colloquia topics have included:
*Navigating adolescence: Finding great waves in stormy waters,
*Indigenous Education: A future that embraces all Australians?,
*School Science and Mathematics: Streets Behind the Real World?,
*What can we expect from schools? and
*How adolescents learn.

Australian Certificate of Education - Vocational

Over 2007 and 2008, the Wesley College Institute has been working with the Australian Council for Educational Research and the Australian Government's Education Department to develop the "Australian Certificate of Education - Vocational". To this end, a pilot vocational program is being considered within the cattle industry in northern Western Australia, as part of the partnership Wesley College, Melbourne has with the community at Fitzroy River (Western Australia).
