Designated player

A designated player may refer to:

  • Designated Player Rule - A player signed by a Major League Soccer franchise whose salary is outside the team's salary cap. Since 2010, teams have been allowed three such players.
  • Designated player (softball) - In softball, a player bats in place of a defensive player. The defensive player is removed from the game if the DP plays in the field.
