Aug 4, 2010Sarah Walker (born 10 July 1988) is a BMX racer who was born in Whakatane, New Zealand, currently residing in Kawerau, New Zealand. She started BMXing in 1999 when she saw her brother, Matt, riding one day[citation needed]. And she has made her career from there ever since.
In the 2008 season UCI Rounds, Sarah had won 7 races, came 2nd in one race and didn't race two races. She was ranked number one in the world by the UCI [1] in 2008, and was one of the favorites to win the BMX women's event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, finishing 4th.
Walker has also won 9 New Zealand age group titles from 1999 to 2008.
On 25 July 2009, Walker won the BMX World Championship in Adelaide, Australia in both the Elite Women and the Elite Cruiser Women events[1][2] . In the 2010 BMX World Championship in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Walker came in second place in the Elite Women, with first place going to Shanaze Reade, and a crash during racing for the Elite Cruiser Women meant that Walker was not able maintain her 2009 championship title.[3]
As well as competing in BMX events around the world Sarah Walker has also been a sports ambassador for Beef + Lamb New Zealand since 2008,[4] and is currently a sponsored rider of Avanti Bikes using their line of ABD BMX bikes when racing.[5]
