Augustasaurus " is agenus of aquaticsauropterygian reptile belonging to theplesiosaur order. Along with the genus "Pistosaurus ", "Augustasaurus" is the only known member of the familyPistosauridae , Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology. accessdate=2008-07-16] where itsfossil bones were first discovered. The second part of the name is the Greek word "sauros" ("σαυρος"), which means "lizard " or "reptile ." The type species, "Augustasaurus hagdorni", was named in honor of thepaleontologist Hans Hagdorn .Description

skull shares many general characteristics with its relative, "Pistosaurus", such as tall, blade-like uppertemporal arches . The skull's elongated rostrum tapers to a dull point, the anterior premaxillary and maxillaryteeth have been described as "fang -like", and thesquamosal makes a box-likesuspensorium .The
dorsal neural spines of "Augustasaurus" are low with tops [ O’Keefe. Pg.52 ] . Itscoracoids are large plates similar to those in otherplesiosaurs O'Keefe Pg. 5] . However, the coracoid foramen are missing from "Agustasaurus", in a way similar to those in the plesiosaur "Corosaurus ". Its cervical ribs have anterior process,O'Keefe. Pg. 51 ] and like most plesiosaurs, "Augustasaurus"'vertebra e have "thickened transverse processes".Distribution
"Augustasaurus" is known from the
Augusta mountains of northwestern Nevada (United States ). Theholotype specimen was found in theFavret Formation , which dates from the mid-Triassic period, ofPershing County, Nevada . [ O'Keefe Pg.9 ]References
