First Horizon National Corporation nyse|FHN is a large banking company based in Memphis, Tennessee. It is the parent company of First Horizon Bank, First Tennessee Bank, and FTN Financial.

First Horizon Home Loan Corporation is one of the top 20 U.S. mortgage (originations and servicing) providers and First Horizon Bank, established in December 2003, offers traditional banking products and services outside the state of Tennessee, in the Atlanta, Dallas-Ft Worth metroplex, Northern Virginia and Balitmore markets.

Its logo, shared among all of FHNC's three subsidiaries, is a cutout portion of the Tennessee state flag.

Corporate history

First Horizon began as the former First National Bank of Memphis, which by the late 1970s was operating throughout most of the state of Tennessee as First Tennessee National Bank.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the bank sought to expand beyond the borders of Tennessee, and changed the name of its parent company accordingly from First Tennessee National Corporation to First Horizon National Corporation in April 2004. The First Horizon brand originally began as a financial loan and insurance company, and in 2003 became a traditional bank, carrying the First Horizon nameplate, when the company opened branches outside Tennessee . The company continues to operate as First Tennessee Bank within the borders of the Volunteer State.

First Horizon Bank has announced plans, as of 2007, to exit all markets outside its core Tennessee markets, where it has the dominant market share.

Effective September 1, 2008, MetLife Bank, N.A., a member of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company family, will purchase origination (including hundreds of branch offices across the US), servicing & a portion of First Horizon Home Loan's portfolio outside Tennessee. At this time, First Horizon Home Loans will become MetLife Home Loans. The remainder of First Horizon Home Loans' mortgage servicing portfolio not purchased by MetLife Bank, N.A. will be sub-serviced by MetLife Home Loans after the divestiture.
